Technology Training
Now more than ever before, technology offers educators the potential of individualized instruction, student-centered classrooms, and higher student engagement. While factors such as cost, alignment, and time have challenged administrators eager to integrate new technology tools, the most critical barrier to technology integration is the lack of effective, ongoing professional development for teachers.
In response to this clear need, the Highlander Institute is developing an Integrated Technology strand of professional development services. The Highlander Institute is rolling out comprehensive professional development for teachers, schools and districts that strategically connect research, proven practices, and critical tools (i.e., iPads, SMARTboards, and web applications).
Technology Workshops
iPads, Smartboards, and web 2.0 applications facilitate differentiation, formative assessment, student-centered learning and individualization in ways that have never previously been available to teachers. Their effective use can help teachers control pacing, content, practice and products – better meeting the needs of the diverse learners in their classroom. The Highlander Institute is delivering content to help teachers at various grade levels and subject areas leverage the tool for students in their care, including two-hour workshops covering topics ranging from math and writing to assessment to early reading skills and project-based learning.
Tailored Consulting Services
In addition to offering content-based workshops, the Highlander Institute is building capacity to offer schools and districts tailored and comprehensive consulting services that consider grade levels, content needs, resource allocation, and current practices related to assessment, RTI, common core standards and scheduling.
