On November 3, 2012, a collaborative effort that included the Highlander Institute hosted the first ever EdCamp in Rhode Island at Rhode Island College. Since then, EdCampRI has organized annual events in the late fall to convene educators interested in engaging in self-initiated topics related to 21st century teaching and learning.
An EdCamp is an “unconference” organized by local groups of educators. Instead of predetermined presenters or topics, participants self-select what they want to learn more about.
Through Fuse RI project work and district support contracts, Highlander Institute facilitators have helped schools, districts and school district consortiums organize and host successful unconferences. These events have built momentum for blended and personalized learning, and empowered teachers to seek out information and resources that are most relevant to their professional learning goals.
